We cater for special diets, but we’re also constantly looking for ways to make food and the dining experience as exciting as possible. There are more than 700 recipes in the HC-One cookbook and we’re updating this all the time. Our Taste and Try sessions are very popular with our Residents and they’ll often ask us to recreate a favourite classic dish. This can trigger a lively conversation and all kinds of memories, discussions and laughter. The carers and Residents at Broadoak Manor enjoy playing an important part in their local community.

Broad Oak Manor in Dartford provides nursing and residential care for anyone looking for a short stay or more permanent accommodation. We welcome anybody living with Parkinson’s and will help with end of life care when needed. Within each of our care homes the Care Home Manager leads a team of care and support Colleagues with skills and experience relevant to their respective discipline. Our family of care homes aim to deliver the kindest possible care and enhance the quality of life of Residents who choose to live with us. Broad Oak Manor has an ‘Open Door Policy’ to visitors and our management team is always available to answer any questions or give advice.
Care Home Activities
Inside Health Relevant health and wellbeing advice from our Bupa experts and influential guest speakers. Residents are served three meals a day, as well as a mid-morning snack and afternoon tea. We use fresh ingredients, locally sourced wherever possible, with the emphasis on providing delicious seasonal meals. We understand the nutritional needs of older people and create meals that offer the correct calorific and nutritional content.
People received appropriate support to maintain healthy nutrition and hydration. The service was meeting the requirements of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards . People were supported to make choices to have maximum control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible.
Who runs this service
Their role extends to maintaining the interior and outside space that Residents enjoy; we separately employ regular contractors who maintain lawns and borders. Food and nutrition represent an important part of a Residents care; lead by our Chef or Head Cook our catering teams ensure we deliver balanced and nutritious meals to meet the needs of elderly people. All meals are cooked on site in our own commercial standard kitchens. In each of our Nursing Care Homes we employ registered nurses to deliver professional nursing care to Residents with complex nursing needs. In our larger Care Homes the Care Home Manager is support by a Unit Manager or Head of Care; the type of person in this role will have significant experience and expertise in leading nursing and care teams. Eating is a social and an emotional experience, and our dining rooms are designed to create a relaxed and happy atmosphere, with menus that offer plenty of variety.

A member of our team will be assigned to care for you and arrange to come and visit you, on a flexible basis, at times that work best for you. Staff received professional development that was relevant to their role. We saw that new members of staff were provided with a comprehensive induction, and training and development was provided to all staff. One member of staff we spoke with told us, 'I love it here, absolutely love it, I feel valued and supported by everybody.
Staff we spoke with were knowledgeable about people's individual requirements and how to support their needs. One person we spoke with told us, "I am very happy living here, I feel like the staff put me first and listen to what I would like, and I have no concerns what so ever with the quality of the care." The Care Quality Commission is England's health and social care services regulator. Broad Oak Manor is rated good, based on the level of care and safety at the home. During our inspection on 8 January 2013 we spoke with four people who lived at the home and the relatives of another person. All provided positive feedback about the service they, or their relative, received at Broad Oak Manor Nursing Home.People told us that they were involved in decisions about their care and treatment.
A range of audits were in place to accurately measure the quality and safety of the care provided and improve where needed. Wellbeing Coordinators work closely with our professional nursing and care teams to deliver meaningful lifestyles and a sense of wellbeing to Residents. Throughout the week wellbeing coordinators plan a range of activities that help Residents to maintain their hobbies, learn new hobbies and to have opportunities to engage with the local community. We observed that people were treated in a dignified and courteous manner by the staff.
During our inspection we spoke with three of the 12 people who lived at the home and another person's relative. They said they felt safe at the home and trusted and liked the staff who provided their care. From the minute my came here they've checked with my and me and listened to what we've said.'We found that people's needs were assessed and care delivered in line with their individual care plans. We saw staff providing care and support to people living at the home.
My finances were looked into and my family agreed that here was the solution. I have my independence and also have people around me when I want company. And, with our innovative, individualised approach, you can be confident that you will receive the highest standards of care both now and in the future.
Care records we looked at routinely assessed people's fluid and nutritional intake, and where necessary people were referred for specialist professional support. There was a clear culture of mutual respect throughout the home and we observed that people were treated with warmth and kindness by all staff. The home is an adapted manor house, with several reception rooms, dining room and lounge. People have access to an enclosed well-maintained garden where they can enjoy the outside space. Tell us about your care
These often have different themes and are carefully planned so that residents of all capabilities are able to take part. We’re doing everything we can to keep our residents connected to their loved ones and the wider community, from video calls to letters and our new Bupa Buddy service. Our housekeeping teams take great pride in overseeing the essential housekeeping duties that make the “house a home”. Care homes are very busy places and with all the comings and goings our housekeepers work tirelessly with laundry, cleaning and the general interior presentation of the care home. Assisted by suggestions from our Residents, our home’s Wellbeing Coordinators organise a varied year round programme of things to do. Many Residents take pleasure in hobbies, including baking, writing, gardening, dancing, painting, quizzes, and playing chess.
